Expected Turnaround Time

Turnaround time is defined as the usual number of days from the date of pickup of a specimen for testing to when the result is released to the ordering provider. In some cases, additional time should be allowed for additional confirmatory or additional reflex tests. Testing schedules may vary.

Serum (preferred) or plasma.

Red-top tube, gel-barrier tube, or green-top (heparin) tube.
Collection
Separate serum or plasma from cells within 45 minutes of collection. If a red-top tube or green-top tube is used, transfer separated serum or plasma to a plastic transport tube.

Room temperature.

Patient Information
To screen for or monitor treatment for a liver or bone disorder.
As part of a routine liver panel or when you have symptoms of a liver or bone disorder.
A blood sample drawn from a vein in your arm.
You may be instructed to have your blood drawn in the morning and/or fast for 12 hours before the test; in this case, only water is allowed. Follow any instructions from your healthcare practitioner and/or from the laboratory performing the test.
Fasting overnight preferred but not required.
